It’s not every day a player from Valparaiso University is drafted into the NBA. In fact, it has been 19 years since Bryce Drew — the last Crusader to be drafted before Thursday — was taken in the first round.

Thursday night, forward Alec Peters became the sixth Valparaiso player to be drafted when the Suns selected him 54th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. The emotional moment was captured on video; take a look below.

The 6-9 Peters was named the 2016-17 Horizon League Player of the Year after averaging 23 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. His season was cut short due to injury, but he’ll now have the chance to make an NBA roster.
