China created a portable rifle ZKZM-500, weighing less AK-47 and capable of a powerful laser to char any living target from a distance of 800 meters. Weapons can be used in covert military operations – a beam powerful enough to pass through the walls of a gas tank or set fire to the fuel storage at a military airport.
The Chinese military said that portable laser weapons, capable of setting the target on fire from a long distance, ceased to be exclusively an object of science fiction, but was implemented, reports South China Morning Post.
The laser assault rifle ZKZM-500 is classified as “non-lethal.” It creates a beam of energy that can not be seen with the naked eye, but which can pass through the windows and cause “instant charring” of the skin and any other living tissues.
“The new device can burn clothes in a few seconds … Thus, the whole body of a person is in danger,” said one of the Chinese gunsmiths.
“The pain will be very long,” another expert, who participated in the development and field testing of the laser rifle prototype at the Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shaanxi Province, described the effect of the defeat of this human weapon.
The 15 mm gun weighs three kilograms – even less than the AK-47 – and has a killer range of 800 meters. Weapons can be attached to cars, boats, and airplanes.
At present, it is ready for mass production, and the first samples will most likely be handed over to the anti-terrorism units of the Chinese police.
In the case of a hostage-taking situation, weapons can be used to fire through windows for terrorists and their temporary deprivation of consciousness. It can also be used in covert military operations. The beam is powerful enough to go through the walls of the gas tank or set fire to the fuel storage at the military airport.
“Since the laser is tuned to an invisible frequency and produces absolutely no sound, no one will know where the attack was conducted from. It will be like an accident, “another project participant explained.
The rifle will be powered by a rechargeable lithium battery, similar to that found in smartphones. On one charge it can make more than 1000 shots, each of which lasts no more than two seconds.
The representative of one of the weapons makers, ZKZM Laser, confirmed that the company is now looking for a partner with a license to manufacture weapons or a partner in security and defense to start large-scale production of a rifle that will cost 100,000 yuan ($ 15,000).
Given the potential of new weapons, the design and production of devices will be closely monitored, and the sole owners and users will be the military and police of the PRC.
A technical document containing necessary information on this weapon was published last month on the portal of the civil service of China’s national civilian and military integration.
A month earlier it was reported that the company Chengdu Hengan Police Equipment Manufacturing – a major supplier of equipment for Chinese law enforcement agencies – also announced the production of laser machine guns. The weapon “beats” for 500 meters and can make several hundred rounds on one charge.
N 2009, the US attempt to develop a portable laser gun led to a failure. Experts joked that that rifle “was dangerous only for nudists” because her beam was too weak to penetrate even through the shirt.
But in 2015, Beijing allocated two billion yuan for the development of compact, powerful laser weapons – an unprecedented budget for work in this area, which caused concern in the US and other Western countries.
In recent years, US military forces operating in strategically important areas such as the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea have complained that they are being subjected to an increasing number of unknown laser exposures from Chinese military bases or ships that look like fishing boats.
Last month, the Pentagon reported on fixing 20 cases when lasers were used against US pilots during Pacific flights.
According to representatives of the American command, the last incident occurred in early June this year. In the US, the Chinese side was suspected of wanting to dazzle American members of the armed forces.
In response, the representative of the Chinese foreign policy department, Geng Shuang, called such suspicions “absolutely baseless and fabricated.”
In the same month, Russian industrialists developed a van that would be used for the Peresvet combat laser. The trailer was built in Naberezhnye Chelny, FAN reported.
The new laser complex, later named “Peresvet,” was presented by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his speech to the Federal Assembly on March 1, 2018. It is assumed that the laser is designed to combat air targets.
In April of this year, it was reported that the US commissioned a new USS Portland (LPD-27), intended for installing laser weapons on it.
The laser gun 30 kW is used for applying physical damages striker against drones and to blind enemy navigation system sends the HCH.
