Manny Pacquiao will be back in the ring April 23, it was announced Wednesday.
Pacquiao, 38, will defend his WBO welterweight title against Australian contender Jeff Horn. Pacquiao beat Jessie Vargas for the belt in November.
Both camps want the fight to be held in Brisbane, Horn’s hometown. Failing that, the bout could be held in the U.S. or the Middle East.
“It will be the biggest fight in Australian history but, until the money is secured, we have to keep our options open, including looking at the Middle East and USA,” Pacqiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, told reporters, per sunstar.com.ph.
Horn, 28, would certainly create buzz down under. The 2012 Olympian is undefeated in 17 fights (16-0-1) and is ranked second in the WBO.
“This can reinvigorate boxing in Australia,” Horn’s trainer, Glenn Rushton, said.
